RE: Pubs Gone but Not Forgotten

The first wife and I used to use the Timberley years ago, it was a good pub then, but I must admit I hardly used it since the 70's so I can't make any comment really on what it became. It was many years ago that it was called the Timberley, it changed it's name to the Pullman and now its called The Chester Arms. Not sure if it was called anything else. But, it's still sad to see another pub go.
I have also heard that the next pub to be closed is the Centurian on Chelmsley Wood, that was a decent pub one time. There will be nothing left at this rate. Problem is kids today don't use them, they would rather go up town and pay £4 a pint for dishwater. What's the answer?

Had some happy hours in the Minerva Vaults before and after the match in the 70's

Wen't passed the Aston Tavern this morning at about 11AM. They had started to knock it down. Probably gone by now

You sure it's being knocked down? It may be being done up? The King Edward is going to knocked down and the council has offered the Aston Tavern to the gaffer.

Two walls had gone and I wouldn't think it's a restoreable building. It's been empty for donkey's years, the roof has caved in and trees are growing inside the place

But then again, there are some pics on Flickr that show the awful state of disrepair it's in, like you say Chocks, its hard to see how they can do a lot with it!

Have just spoken to dad and he says there was a later article in the Mail in January, that said the fixtures and historical fittings from the King Edward are to be moved to the Aston Tavern but the reporter at that point said it looked like the Aston Tavern was beyond recovery!!
