The next 3 are Australian FAA units. At the time these badges were issued, the Australian Navy (as with all Empire and Commonwealth Navies) was under the control of the Royal Navy. These squadrons would have been land based in Australia as Pilot Training Squadrons or Maintenance Squadrons.

That first badge with royal blue would be really good for Blues fans. Zulus

Back to the FAA Squadrons..

Notes.

Where I have entered an unpainted badge, these are unofficial badges that were accepted as the squadron badge but never approved. Unfortunately, artists never seem to reproduce these because they are not on Admiralty files and as such colours are not known. Most of these badges are now lost in time.

Many Squadrons had unofficial badges that ran along side of the official one issued. Any of these I have I will save until later.

You will also notice that some squadrons have the same badge. ie. 770 & 790, 792 & 794 etc. One reason for this is because a squadron may be disbanded at 1 minute to midnight and reformed at 1 minute past midnight with a new number. That squadron would opt to keep the badge and just change the number on it. Then a few months later a new squadron will be formed and issued with the original number but with a new badge to represent the squadrons role or function.

Some squadron operated as UK squadrons before being transfered to Australia or Canada. When this happened the squadron usually (not always) kept the same badge centre boss. However, new squadrons that were formed in these respective countries were allowed to produce their own badge. These badges still required Admiralty approval.
