That's a great pic Frothy.
Here's the same place in 1910 and 2010

The Hill, was that the name of the road then? It's High street now isn't it?

Found this on Google yesterday. It must be around 1900 or so.

The shop on the corner on the left is now the co-op funeral parlour. Other than that, not much seems to have changed.

Nice picture. Not sure if it's a painting or a coloured in photo?

Coleshill Railway Station opened in 1839, closed to passenger traffic during the Great War and renamed Maxstoke Station in 1923; the building was demolished in 1961.

This is a great picture Frothy. I put the same picture on on the "50 years of Coleshill" thread. What I really fear is the info given with the picture. Try as I might, I can't find any info other then Wiki' to support it. Maxstoke has no rail line running through it and it's the opposite side of Coleshill from the station by about 2 miles or so. Wiki' also states that the original station was at Forge Mills. There is no evidence that there was ever a station there and no evidence in the land of a railway ever being there. None of my books back this up and no map seems to either.
Somehow I think the info is incorrect!

I always wait to be proved wrong though

Love that picture Frothy. Rivers too deep now to ford.

The Building in the front was the Stonebridge Hotel. Very popular with tourists until just after WW2. Used as a War Hospital in WW1 and a recuperation hospital in WW2. Demolished in the early 1950's and flats built on the site in the 1960's.

Same location slightly earlier
