Spitfires and Lancasters at Castle Bromwich

#1 by Templer , Tue Mar 13, 2012 6:37 pm

Two fantastic pictures of Spitfires being manufactured at Castle Brom.
The first showing the assembly line.
The second on the tarmac waiting to be flown out, i'm not certain but I think the women in white boiler suits are the pilots that flew them to their respective squadrons.

Great photos Bri and to think that Building is still there, I've been in it.

Amazing! I don't remember seeing a wing in the roof when I worked there but there again I didn't spend me time looking up

I wish I had known all this when I worked in C block, which was then the press shop.
If you save the picture at the bottom you get a better version of it, one you can read.
And don't miss reading his signature, basic flying rules.

A great newsreel of Alex Henshaw test flying a spitfire over Castle Bromwich in 1941.
He flew the prototype spitfire for the designer R.J.Mitchell.

Came across these by accident earlier this morning. Thought they'd be worth sharing. Hope the Artists don't mind?
